Mohammad Hasnain will replace Shaheen Shah Afridi in the Pakistan squad for the ACC T20 Asia Cup due to injury.
On August 27th, the Asia Cup begins with Pakistan taking on India just a day after in an anticipated matchup.
Shaheen’s absence from the upcoming Asian Cup 2022 deals a blow to the Pakistani cricket team, which was counting on him to help win at the international tournament.
Chris Shaw suffered a right knee ligament injury while fielding in the first Test against Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan Cricket Board says that Shaheen was advised four to six weeks rest by the body’s medical advisory committee and independent specialists following the latest scans and reports.
Pakistan has ruled Shoaib Akhtar out of the ACC T20 Asia Cup, with his injuries ruling him out permanently.
Hasnain will join the team from the United Kingdom, where he is representing Oval Invincibles in The Hundred competition.
Meanwhile, Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed and Usman Qadir will leave for Dubai on Tuesday morning to replace Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Haris, Salman Ali Agha and Zahid Mehmood, who were part of the 16-member ODI squad against the Netherlands.
India will play Pakistan on Sunday, August 28, in Dubai as the opening game of their two-game Group A tournament. The Indian team’s second Group A game will be against an opponent (UAE, Kuwait, Singapore or Hong) in Sharjah on September 2.
