South Africa’s Fakhar Zaman will replace Pakistan’s Utminster Qadir in the 15-player ICC T20 World Cup 2022 team roster after the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Friday.
Qadir sustained a hairline fracture on his right thumb in the T20I series against England in Karachi, September 25. The legspinner has now been ruled unfit for the remainder of Pakistan’s tour of the UK, with the final match scheduled for October 22.
Meanwhile, Fakhar will arrive in Brisbane from London along with Shaheen Shah Afridi on Saturday, and will be available for selection in the two warm-up matches against England and Afghanistan. The team management will assess his fitness during that time, to decide whether he can play or not.
On October 23, Pakistan officially launch their campaign against arch-rivals India at the iconic MCG.
Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (C), Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood.
