Ravi Shastri, former coach of India’s cricket team, believes that Rohit Sharma’s new attack style will be successful in T20 International cricket.
The Indian cricket team has been playing a new kind of T20 cricket with an aggressive batting approach which has benefited them immensely.
Not only India have adopted this style but Australia, England and South Africa are also using the same technique.
Speaking to Star Sports, Ravi Shastri said that he had Dave what the Indian team should do in matches against Pakistan next month.
“Teams often tell their coaching staff they are not aggressive, even if they have a stacked lineup near the top,” Shastri said. “Teams should keep their strategy the same despite who they have batting or bowling.”
“It is the best approach. Sometimes you need to lose a few early games in order to get used to this style but if you start winning big, you can use the same tactics come playoff time,” he added.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will return to the Indian squad for the Asia Cup next year after missing a significant amount of time from competitive play in T20 matches. In addition, Kohli has played in just 4 games of the 20 since he came back from injury, while Rahul has yet to play a match.
Shastri said Kohli and Rahul would be able to adapt easily to India’s new attacking approach, despite not playing a lot of T20Is in 2022.
“It doesn’t seem like it would be a huge task for these seasoned IPL players to make the adjustment. With four expert players in the middle and lower order, India has the depth to recover if their top order puts up a failure.”
Virat Kohli: The Cricketer Fitter Than Anyone
India’s captain continues to struggle through a prolonged lean period, but Ravi Shastri predicted that Virat Kohli has learned some important things during this time and will work with the team to bounce back in the Asia Cup.
“It’s not rocket science. Mental fatigue can creep into the best in the world. This down time was needed for his body and to reflect.” The 60-year-old said.
“He will come back with a much calmer mind. The first game of the series will be over, and thus his public memory will be short-lived.
“In contrast, even one innings can make a drastic change in how Kohli will perform for the rest of the match. He was caught up in the moment and had an immense hunger and passion during that phase.”
